What is important to us
Although privately owned, Solberga is practically a not-for-profit company. Maybe you wouldn’t think this when visiting the farm in summer, with many guests and customers in the farm shop, but Solberga has never made a profit since 2010, when we took over the farm. Quite the contrary. Renovations and much-needed repairs, replacement of equipment and maintenance of buildings, and the construction of summerhouses and the expansion of restaurant and farm shop - all this has cost many hundreds of thousands of Euros. Even in the future, the farm will not generate profit, there\\\'s too much work left to do:
roofs have to be replaced and complete electricity systems to be re-drawn, pipe systems have to be renewed, and facades painted. Be sure that every kronor you spent on the farm will be reinvested to 100%.
However, we think not only of our own economy: it is just as important that Solberga plays a positive role in the economy of Öland. Here it is our great concern that we buy as many products and services as possible directly on Öland. The short distances are also more environmentally friendly, and the money remains in the economy of the island.
Finally, a few words on bookings: As you may have seen, during low season, we offer a limited number of rooms through booking.com. If you want to support Solberga, please do not use this platform and make a reservation directly with us. Remember that we pay 20% in commissions, money that is going straight to an enormous transnational corporation that is pressuring businesses in Öland into competition and that sucks financial resources out of the island. We believe it is much better if the money stays in Öland and is used for local purposes. Unfortunately, booking.com has already so much power and manages so many bookings that no business in Öland can just ignore this.
